Positions Open

Join our team! Vita Poetica is seeking colleagues for the volunteer positions of Poetry, Prose, Visual Arts, and Interviews Editors. We are a small nonprofit organization with a mission to connect artists of faith and enliven spiritual conversations through the arts. Individuals with a heart for building community and a desire to engage more deeply with the arts are especially encouraged to get in touch.

The positions entail a commitment of 8-10 hours per month, with some months being busier than others. Currently, editor positions receive a stipend of $50 each quarter as a small token of our appreciation. There is potential for increase as our organization develops. All positions require familiarity with our mission and with our quarterly online journal, which publishes work at the intersection of art, faith, and spirit.

Please note that editors are ineligible for the publication of their creative work in the journal but are welcome to contribute interviews, reviews, and contemplative practices in accordance with editorial needs.

The Prose Editor is responsible for making final selections of fiction and creative non-fiction submissions (in collaboration with the journal's co-editors), corresponding and working with writers on their pieces, and preparing the fiction and other prose sections of each issue for publication. We are looking for an individual who is active in arts communities and can do some outreach to increase our submissions among established writers. Good collaborative skills and attention to deadlines are preferred for this position. Familiarity with Vita Poetica's fiction and creative non-fiction choices in recent years will be very helpful, along with a commitment to the journal's mission of exploring the intersection of art and faith.

The Visual Arts Editor is responsible for seeking and reviewing art submissions, corresponding with artists, and preparing visual arts features for publication. We are looking for an individual who is active in arts communities and can do some outreach to increase our submissions among established artists. Since the editor may be working with artists who are not always comfortable with writing, strong writing and editing skills are preferred for this position, but support is also available from our editors.

The Interviews Editor manages the journal’s Interviews section, including conducting at least one interview per issue with artists in a range of disciplines and whose work spans the intersection of art and faith. The Interviews Editors may also invite or solicit interview features from qualified individuals. Strong communication skills preferred, both spoken and written, as a good amount of correspondence is involved in coordinating interviews as well as editing the content. Our editorial assistant assists with interview transcriptions.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until filled. Those interested should submit, via Submittable, a resume and cover letter introducing themselves and sharing why the position appeals to them. The application process requires a free Submittable account. If you need any help with the process, please email hello@vitapoetica.org.

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
